Honoring America’s WWII Ghost Army

The latest spot on our Arthur Shilstone radar is a pretty good one – earlier this week, we heard that President Biden signed a bill awarding the Congressional Gold Medal to the Ghost Army – an award given to the likes of George Washington, the Monuments Men, Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and Nelson Mandela among many others. This video by CBS gives a brief glimpse into the Ghost Army, and features a snippet of an interview from 1986 with our very own Arthur Shilstone!

The Ghost Army is a truly fascinating part of World War II history, and of Arthur Shilstone’s lifetime. More can be read about the Ghost Army in this recent New York Times article and The Ghost Army Legacy Project, and Arthur Shilstone’s service is chronicled in our book Arthur Shilstone: A Lifetime of Drawing & Painting.
